Mains to tank water diversion. System will automatically switch over to mains water when tank is empty or in case of pump failure.

Submersible pump with in-built electronic controller located inside the rainwater tank

Electronic pressure controller on a multi-stage pump offers loss of prime protection and a quieter level of operation compared to other pump types.

A pressure tank can increase pump operating efficiency.

Pump cover offers protection from exposure. Available in a range of colours to compliment surroundings.
An efficiently-operating pump is key to sucessful rainwater usage.Water Tactics offer onsite water pump repairs and servicing, trouble-shooting, preventative maintenance pump service, pump warranty work and pump selection, supply and installation.
We offer advice in selecting the correct pump for new or replacement installation. The proper pump for the specific application is one which provides optimal water pressure and flow-rate while operating at maximum efficiency to reduce power costs.
All pump makes, models and types
We service and repair all makes and models of pressure pumps including Bianco, Claytech, DAB, Davey, Grundfos, Lowara, Onga, Orange, Pumpmaster, Universal, Vada to name a few.
Call us for advice on centrifigal pumps, jet pumps, submersible pumps, pressure tanks and mains water to tank automatic switching devices.
We will visit and provide on-site assessment of rainwater tank water pump operation. In many situations, a pump may be able to be serviced and/or repaired on-site.
In cases where a water pump requires extensive assessment or repair, we will remove the pump for repair. If the pump is supplying internal plumbing to laundry, toilet or whole of house, we ensure the water switch is set to provide mains water supply.
In the case where tank water is the sole water supply, we can install a loan pump to operate until the household pump repair is carried out.
When tank water is connected to internal plumbing devices e.g. toilets, allowance must be made for diversion back to mains water in the case of limited tank water supply or pump failure. This is usually achieved by:
Automatic water switches will swap the water supply to mains water when the tank water supply is insufficient or in the case of pump failure either due to power outage or pump malfunction.
Water switches may be of electronic or hydraulic operation.
Reverting from mains water to tank water source
Automatic water switching devices revert from mains to tank water dependiing on the mechanism involved:
How to tell if you are operating with tank or mains water source
When an automatic water switch is installed, the householder may not initially realise when the water source has been swapped as the object is to provide a constant uninterrupted water supply. The key is to listen for pump operation. If the pump is not operating but water is being supplied, you will be using mains water.
As the objective of rainwater harvesting is to maximise the use of rainwater whenever possible, it is important to note whether the switch to mains water has occurred due to insufficient tank water or due to pump failure.
If there is sufficient water in the tank and there has been no interruption to power supply:
A pressure tank connected to a pump can increase operating efficiency. Pressure tanks come in a variety of sizes and store a reserve amount of water which can be drawn from without operating the pump. This means that if a request is made of a small amount of water, it can be supplied from the pressure tank instead of the pump starting to draw water from the rainwater tank.
Pressure pumps draw more electrical power in the start-up operation. Reducing the number of times your pump has to start reduces the power it consumes.
Pressure tank maintenance
A pressure tank contains an inflatable bladder. If the bladder is deflated it reduces the efficiency and will cause the pump to start & stop more frequently. The bladder pressure should be checked at least every 12 months and re-inflated to the prescribed pressure
Did you know that most pump manufacturer's will void the pump warranty if a pump has been exposed to the elements without protection? Although a pump is all about transferring water, pumps can be irreparably damaged by external exposure to rain, moisture and submerging in water.
If it is not possible to locate the pump in a fully protected location, a pump cover will protect your pump from exposure to the elements and extend the life of your investment.
We supply pump covers in a range of colours to compliment tank colour or the pump location.
